Don Giles



Hi, I’m Don Giles from North Vancouver, British Columbia.  I have been married to Roxie for 46 years.  We have 2 sons, Colin & Douglas, and 2 grandchildren, Jack & Arlen.  I am retired but worked previously as a Forest Industry Technology Advisor.  I curl at two Clubs; Royal City [New Westminster] and Vancouver Curling Club, and am also a member of North Shore Curling Association.

Curling accomplishments include: PCMCA/BCIMCA Provincial Curling Championship Zone 3 representative 2015, 2016. PCMCA Guy Philips Trophy - Championship 2015 and PCMCA Masters [Royal City] runner up for League Championship 2016.  In 2013, I Skipped a North Shore Winter Club team against Team Scotland.  

We are world travelers having lived in or visited, New Zealand [1973-76], East and South Africa, Australia, Iran [1977-78], Bhutan, China, Peru, Mexico, Panama Canal, Canada, USA, UK, France, and Germany. I play 2nd trombone in the Little Mountain Brass Band [Vancouver] (also group treasurer).  I have sung in a Barbershop Chorus for 35 years. I am a volunteer presenter [25+ years] at elementary schools: 8 -15 schools per year for Science & Innovators in Schools  [Telus World of Science, Vancouver.]

At the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, I was a designated driver for Olympic and Para-Olympic Committee members - assigned to drive Crown Prince of Denmark [Olympics] and Carla Qualtrough, past President of Canadian Paralympic Committee and currently Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities.

I am a 7th generation Canadian of Scottish ancestry [Alex McKay 1832 from Dornoch, Sutherlandshire to Lanark, Ontario], My son attended the Royal Academy of Music in Glasgow.  I enjoy fly-fishing, music, gardening, and woodworking.  In fact, I made my own wooden stabilizer.
