John Rudd

Hi, I'm John Rudd from Toronto, Ontario.

I'm a retired IT professional from the financial industry.  I have curled for more than 40 years.  Thirty of those years have been at the St. George's Golf and Country Club where I had the pleasure of serving on the Curling Executive Committee many times.  I was privileged to play against the Scots on their Strathcona Cup Tours to Toronto in 2003 and 2013.  Both were great fun with many positive memories.

I enjoy our sport and enjoy helping others do the same.  Over the past 20+ years I have been involved in instructing, teaching, and coaching curlers of all levels and ages.  For three years, I organized the junior curling league of the Toronto Curling Association (TCA).   I have been a curling course facilitator with the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) for the past 12 years delivering courses and clinics on all aspects of curling as well as evaluating coaches working on their certification requirements.  As a Certified Competition coach, I have coached youth teams to appearances at 14 Ontario Championships, a Bantam Ontario Championship, a Silver Medal at the Ontario Winter Games and appearances at 2 Canadian University Championships.  Currently I am in my fourth year as Head Coach at the University of Toronto and thoroughly enjoying it.   Through these various roles, I have been to more than half of the 193 member clubs of the OCA!  In 2007 I was honoured to receive the Pat "O" Reid Coaching Award from the OCA.   I was thrilled to be named 2017 Coach of the Year at the Ontario University Championships.

Since retiring, my wife and I have driven our truck and trailer from coast to coast in Canada seeing every province and coast to coast in the USA seeing nearly all states.  We have travelled quite a lot through Europe as well including a trip to Scotland - loved our time there!  Alaska was our most recent destination in 2017 and it was spectacular.
