Meet Jim Mastine


Hi, I’m from Windsor, Quebec

A Quality Supervisor at Domtar Inc., I curl out of the Windsor Curling Club where I started the Junior Program in 1980/81and was responsible for it through 1985 and again in 1992-2002. Assistant Match Chairman in 1978-80, I went on to Chair the Program in 1980-83 and again in 1985 through 2004. I was President of the Club in 1983-85, again in 2003-2005 and served as Treasurer from 2003 to 2007.
At the Regional Level, I served as Assistant Junior Chairman -1982-84, Junior Chairman-1984-86, 1990-92 and


2000-07 and Junior Co-Chairman-1997-2000. In addition I was Convenor from 1984-86 and Technical Coordinator from 2001-07.
At the Association level, I was Director, Curling-Québec/ Fédération québécoise de curling-1988-1994, a member of the Provincial Championship Committee-1990-1993 and President for 2 years, Quebec Junior Representative at the Canadian Junior Championship-1990-1993, responsible for the Quebec Junior Men’s Championship-1990-2001, founded the Quebec Provincial Junior Championship in 1991 and was President in 1991-1994.

From a coaching perspective, as a Certified Level 2 Coach and Level 3 Technical, I coached the Junior Men’s Team -1982-1985-Provincial Bronze in 1983, and again in 1995-1999 (my son participated in the Canada Games in 1999), and again in 2000-Provincial Silver, coached the Junior Girls Team-1998-2005 to Provincial Silver-2002, Provincial Champions-2003 and Provincial Bronze-2004 and coached the Ladies Team to the Provincial Finals in 2007.

As a Certified Official, I served as Assistant Head Official at the 1988 Labatt Provincial Men’s, was On-Ice Official (including the finals)at the 1988 Labatt Brier in Chicoutimi, Quebec, and was Head Official at the Provincial Mixed in Asbestos and the Provincial Men’s and Ladies in Lennoxville/North Hatley.
As a competitor, I was on the winning teams in the 1983 Provincial Cinzano, 2004and 2005 Lady Gilmour-Canadian Branch Mixed Championship, the 2005, 2006 and 2007 International Gordon Medal and the 2007 Royal Victoria Jubilee-Canadian Branch Men’s Championship.

A Member of the Governor General’s Curling Club, I am also a Life Member of the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club.
I had the pleasure of curling against the Scots at St.-Lambert CC during their 2003 Centenary Tour and represented the Region at the Host Banquet in Lennoxville.

Outside of curling, I am a Warden at St Paul Sydenham Church, have played softball for some 20 years, coached a Girl’s Softball Team-1995-2000, played darts until it conflicted with curling, collect curling pins, was an avid Montreal Expos baseball fan and, believe it or not, I follow the family tradition and cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs!
